Chit-Chat Check-In
These posts will be mostly presented as audio files. In most cases it’ll be just me giving you a little update (i.e. where I am, how things are going, etc.) I hope to also have some Chit-Chat Check-In with other people I’m around (i.e. bandmates, friends, family, strangers — and hopefully the occasional check-in will be with some of you Starship Casual clients, too.)

"I Think It's Going to Rain Today"
Can you do a Sadies song? Dallas Good was such an incredible musician. 48 is way too young to die. Lonely Guy? Within A Stone? Why Would Anybody Live Here? p.s. that's a beautiful video of your lake.
Saw them many times in Canada and a very small bar, the Village Idiot. Amazing musicians, no idea he passed.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Your beach walk will be significantly warmer and less windy here.
Maybe a Sadies song for Dallas Good
Once again, I humbly submit my likely-to-be-futile requests for Mr. Blue Sky or The Warmth Of The Sun. New additions to this request theme this week come in the form of Walkin’ On Sunshine and California Sun. Gracias, O Captain, and safe travels to the western regions.
Song request to honor the passing of Dallas Good of the Sadies “The Good Years” from Northern Passages. So deeply saddened by his passing. Thanks for listening.
I Wish I Was the Moon - Neko Case
Need a wee wintery blow through now and again.
What about
the whole of the moon by the waterboys
As a cover?
My favourite song ever that’s not by Wilco
Have you ever read the fact/details/info (according to Spotify) of that song when it plays on Spotify? How much Prince loved it....how much it is covered, etc.? Check it out!
Thanks I will do that.
Prince’s Raspberry Beret would be awesome.

How about Private Universe by Crowded House / Neil Finn?
Love this one :)
I wouldn’t be mad if you played Ripple at one of the Fillmore shows. We’re suckers for good Dead covers in this city… safe travels, Captain.
Green Shirt by Elvis Costello would be cool. Or my earlier suggestion of Killing Moon by Echo and The Bunnymen still stands
If it’s the beaches, Avett Brothers please.
Great suggestion!
Bob Dylan's 'Forever Young' - my song! You played it on The Tweedy Show sometime ago.
The ship Song (Nick Cave and the Bad seeds).

We were just in balmy Saugatuk Mi. Lots of snow! My song request is...Working Class Hero- Lennon. Thx! Safe travels my Lord Captain.
March 1, @ Largo, (if you’re feelin’ it), could you please do “Broken Arrow”. A grateful nation thanks you! 🇺🇸
Please play Gun from the great band Uncle Tupelo on the 24th at Largo!
The crowds didn't scare you away from the beach. That's nice.
So behind on catching up with the Starship. It's like I'm in a little cubbie plane, three universes behind. Anyway, my cover suggestion would be any Paul McCartney, as I always request him. Maybe "Tug of War." Loved the video of the waves.
This might sound like a strange one, Jeff...but R.E.M.'s Feeling Gravity's Pull would be an interesting challenge from a solo performance perspective, and also it has cross-currents of tension and release that are lovely and dynamic. I can imagine this in one of your various out-tunings.
Jeffy you’re looking very trim these days.

"Going to California" I've thought of a few covers recommendations for ya, but after seeing you live a few times I've been educated on how hard some of this stuff is to cover. I was thinking of Joni Mitchell's "California" last time you asked, but then I caught myself and pictured you laughing out loud at the suggestion. Then I listened to that song again and thought better than to expose myself to embarrassment. So, "Going to California" seem on point for your current trip and seems like your voice would be pretty cool to hear with those lyrics. Of course Robert Plant's voice is probably just as impossible to follow as Joni Mitchell's and I totally have my head up my a**. I guess a little bit of knowledge is dangerous. Either way, have a super trip. See you soon in NYC!
"The Academy Fight Song" or any from Mission to Burma
Strange American Dream by Rayland Baxter
"Now to War" by Guided by Voices please. Off the album Mag Earwhig
Harvest Moon 🌙
"Going To California"
Oooh, getting so excited for Thursday's show! A request? Don't mind if I do... I usually request Love Like A Wire but this time around I'm gonna ask for Love Like Blood by John Hiatt. It's an oldie but a goodie.
Jersey Girl? here's my take https://oldssleeper.bandcamp.com/track/jersey-girl-2
"I'll Be Your Mirror"
I'd love to hear you cover some good old High Lonsesome sound, such as "High on the Mountain" by Olla Belle Reed--her version or Del McCoury's. "There Stands the Glass" by Webb Pierce. "Always Late" Lefty Frizzell. Hillbilly and early rockabilly music. Love the stuff.
My cat really enjoyed your video, Jeff. Thanks!
Getting excited to see you at the Filmore on Tuesday night. Would make my year to hear So Much Wine pretty pretty please.
Bloody Brrrrr....I thought it was a chilly 10C last night here in Warrnambool
Hi Jeff. I’m from the opposite side of the lake originally. I had the same hikes year after year—and similar photos. On a private beach in Michigan. I was thinking of, perhaps, “In Dreams” by Roy Orbison. If it strikes anyone’s (or your) fancy. Stay safe. Keep on keeping’ on.
Nice waves. I’ve seen the ice push up. Fortunately none of that. Go someplace warm! California would work.
For a cover, how about Kerosene by the Bottle Rockets? I’m pretty sure that’s the first track I heard you sing on.
Hello by Adele would be swell. Thanks, Captain. ❤️
Perhaps an odd request because I don't know how familiar you are with their music, but Scott Hutchison of Frightened Rabbit was a MASSIVE fan of yours and he said in interviews that you were a hero of his and the artist that he would have liked to collaborate with the most. Ever since he died, I've dreamed of him being able to posthumously collaborate with you in the form of you covering a song of his. I've always thought that the Frightened Rabbit songs "Old Old Fashioned" or "Good Arms vs. Bad Arms" would be perfect for the Jeff treatment :) Just a thought!
I’d say ‘cover yourself, it’s cold’ but you seem wrapped up pretty well.
🥰
Balancing Act by Volcano Suns? Thanks!

“Oh Sweet Nuthin’”
Requests to cover: The Seekers - I'll Never Find Another You
How about your favorite Joni Mitchell song? Captain’s choice!
California Dreamin’ - The Mamas & The Papas. Thematic! ;)
Seasons In The Abyss by Slayer. The world needs acoustic version of this and you are the man I feel. Best Slayer song on best Slayer record done by Mr Rick Rubin. Last two years we seem to have been in a bit of a abyss with trump and the pandemic pushing us to our limits. Thx and Hail Satan
Save travels! I'll be at the Fillmore show tomorrow night. Looking forward to hearing the solo and Tweedy material. Sure would love to hear some of the Mermaid Ave. songbook, as well. I'm the fan boy constantly requesting "Secret of the Sea" at every show.
Still holding out hope for Sadly Beautiful by the Replacements
I gotta stay with King Tut by Steve Martin and I'll add Particle Man from TMBG.
How about “Make Art Not Friends” by Sturgill Simpson?
I mean due to the nature of the video it has to be something off “on the beach”…..vampire blues perhaps 🤔
“Temptation Eyes” by The Grassroots
Sufjan Stevens’ Chicago?
I love that video. Lake Michigan in the winter is so powerful and eerily beautiful. I would love to hear you cover Change by Big Thief.
One of my all-time favorite covers is Kurt Cobain's version of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World." Would love to hear your take on that song.
That’s the ringtone on my phone!
Cool video of your winter walk! I reached for an afghan when the wind picked up. Regarding a song suggestion, it might seem a bit corny, but I’d love to hear your version of Anne Murray’s “A Love Song.” I heard it on the radio yesterday, and damn, I forgot how beautiful it is. ♥️
“It’s Easy ( Like Walking)”. The Sadies, Kurt Vile
As a northern Midwesterner, I love this post. A lot. Jeff Tweedy -- rock n' roll star, also just plain ol' Midwestern guy who can handle hiking with the frigid wind off of Lake Michigan in his face. Lotta peeps can't handle that, wussies.
xo to you Captain and the Tweedy fam. Missing the Thursday night Tweedy show. Take care.
“Bell Boy”/The Who. The beach is a place where a man can feel he’s the only soul in the world that’s real…
Play something by Ted Lucas

The Mats Alex Chilton……would be nice to hear……I hope you’ll consider Fort Wayne, IN. as a town to play in. Peace
Thanks for the video! Request: since I was not at The Vic on February 13, 2009, I would really love to hear your cover of Fake Plastic Trees!
It was delightful hearing Britt Daniel covering Wilco’s Kamera @ SBS. Would love to hear your take on Spoon’s Inside Out. Or perhaps any Spoon song you like.
Excellent cinnamon toastography, Jeff. Seems you’ve learned a thing or two from Susie
Good luck in California.
Ship Song by Nick Cave.
How about Courtney Barnett's "Before You Gotta Go"? It's fun to finger-pick.
Fallen Angel by The Silos

How about some Kinks? Sunny Afternoon or Well Respected Man, for instance.
Or The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

How about an unreleased Wilco track - Venus Stopped the Train.
Even The Losers
How about a Gerry Rafferty tune, Jeff?
Have a great trip and lots of fun along the way.
Song for Insane Times by Kevin Ayers. Stay warm.
Damn! Super windy here too - about 40 miles north of you. Very brave walking on the beach - burr! Stay safe out there!
Sooner or Later ?
Yes! Pete Townshend did a great cover of this, too.
Love that cover too❤️ I will keep suggesting….thanks for agreeing😊
The best thing about that cover was that it was done by an older bloke. It gets more poignant when sung by someone more aware of his mortality. Even if he did, at one time, say "Hope I die before I get old".
A bit of a different genre, but I'd love to hear you cover Roam by the B52s.
Bill Callahan “Too Many Birds.”
Just got back from a walk through town. Cold but not as cold! That was very cool, literally and figuratively.
Looks rad! If you like your ice pal, take a read of Alfred Lansing’s book about Shackleton’s incredible Arctic adventure; Endurance. You won’t be disappointed I promise you that. Also, how about covering some Elliott Smith (perhaps Waltz #2 or Angeles, considering your upcoming trip) or maybe some Nick Drake? Be well!
“Inhospitable climes” 😂
“Riding For The Feeling” by Bill Callahan would be fantastic.
I’d second that emotion.
Do you know that Gordon Lightfoot is coming to Worcester, MA?- I am very excited about the silent movies and Wurtlizer organ show- the Hanove theater has an organ that rises up out of the floor- I saw Cary Elwes discuss Princess Bride and Pink Martini there
yup Matey the ice be in the Mizzen Mast- What? I am JUST Saying Stop what you are doing outside- sure go enjoy California
How about Love That's Bold by JB Vannatta (a dude can dream, right?)
Love to hear “Have Love, Will Travel” by Tom Petty!
Yes! How about a cheer for all those bad girls? And all those boys that play that rock 'n' roll. They love it like you love Jesus. It does the same thing to their souls…
The last two videos refuse to play for me here in the Antipodes……sigh……for some unknown reason “something went wrong” appears on the screen instead ….sob…. So please cover a dirty to cheer me up dear Capt’n.
And when will you travel really really really west and come back to the land of Vegemite once more ??????? Europe is being treated ………how bout us ???🙏
Your hat suggests a cover of "Why Can't We Be Friends" by WAR. ---oh. wait. That says "warm". Never mind.
Highway Patrolman- Bruce Springsteen
License to Kill - Bob Dylan
I would love your take on Iron & Wine's The Trapeze Swinger.
In honor of your upcoming L.A. shows, maybe a cover of Randy Newman's "I love L.A."? (or even a cover of Tupac/Dre's "California Love"?)
How about “Don’t leave the light on, leave me alone” by Can?
For very personal reasons that might be helpful to others undergoing major losses, and also because I think you will do it beautifully, I’m hoping you’ll cover “All the Best” by John Prine. And as a comic alternative, may I suggest “In Spite of Ourselves” (also John Prine) as a duet with Susie. So much love and looking forward to whatever you choose.
Is there more to the Space Force song that we could hear? Just finished watching the Wilco episode yesterday
