Chit-Chat Check-In #95 • Transcript
Recently I was reminded of an early version of “Panthers” because we’ve been going through some of the archives, and I found a version that I played solo acoustic. I’m not going to share it here, but I re-learned the song from that one. Maybe the other one will come out someday, hopefully. We played this song in its final form at the Solid Sound Deep Cuts set this year. It’s always been one of my favorites from that period.
I’m also thinking about the fact that it was Starship Casual’s three-year anniversary a few weeks ago. Because of that, I wanted to remind everybody that you can still sign up for extra stuff, if that’s your thing. Every year we make sure that people who’ve signed up for the Captains Club get something special—at least one physical “prize,” as we call them. (If you’re a current Captains Club member, check your mailbox very soon.) We try to make it worth your while every year.
Thank you to everybody that’s been along for these three rotations around the sun. I appreciate it, deeply. I also thought I’d share something that I posted recently on other social media, because it’s still my wife’s birthday week. Susie is still celebrating. We all celebrate her birthday for a week.

Happy Birthday Week to this blinding beam of light and goodness. Everything, every decision I make, every song I write… every ounce of everything I do is an act born from the sincere desire to manifest in myself some sense that I’m worthy of her love—that I deserve a place by her side. One day a year is but a drop in the bucket of the time that would be necessary to sufficiently honor her. A week of celebration is a start… but still nowhere near the eons needed to rebalance an acknowledgement weighed in time to the debt I owe. I love you, Sukierae! OxO
