Chit-Chat Check-In #95 Transcript

Hello, this is your Captain speaking. Still on the Path of Wellness ... is that the name of the Sleater-Kinney record? I think it was. Just lounging around, thinking about making a post. Recently I was reminded of an early version of "Panthers" because we've been working on, going through some of the archives, and I found a version that I played solo acoustic. I'm not going to share it with you, but I re-learned it from that one. Maybe the other one will come out someday, hopefully. But this one is basically just reminding myself of how the song sounded when it was written. And then playing it for you as best I can without rehearsing it a whole lot. I was a lot steadier twenty years ago with the strumming, somehow. I kinda can't figure out how I've gotten worse at that. Because I play guitar all the time, you'd think I would be better at it. But some things go and some things get added, so that's just the way it is.

We played this song in its final form at the Solid Sound Deep Cuts set, I believe. It's always been one of my favorites from that period. But it just didn't make it on a record, I guess, until much later. I'm also thinking about the fact that it's our three-year anniversary recently, for the Substack. And because of that I wanted to remind everybody that you can still sign up for extra stuff, if that's your thing. Every year we try and make sure that the people who have signed up for the Captain's Club, or whatever we're calling it now--I think it's the Captain's Club, I should probably check on that before I give you all this information. But you can still sign up. You'll figure it out. You'll get a CD, a hat, a mug, some stickers. I don't know. I just try to make it worth your while every year. Stuff that you wouldn't get anywhere else. CDs of the songs that I've put up here that aren't available anywhere except for on here. I guess if you want to play them in your car, if you play CDs. Maybe you can load them into your device, whatever.

So there's that. Sign up for that, if you're into it. Thank you to everybody that's been along for these three rotations around the sun. I appreciate it, deeply. I also thought I'd post something that I posted recently on other social media, because it's still my wife's birthday week. Susie is still celebrating. We all celebrate her birthday for a week. I've been meditating on Susie as a way of devoting myself to her. That was a joke, because we're not actually together at the moment, and she thought that was funny, that that's how I celebrate her birthday week. By being gone.

Anyway, yeah, carry on.
