Message From Mid-Bar (solo acoustic)
Hate will save the dolphins + Chit-Chat Check-In #89
Last month, your esteemed fellow passenger Bryn Lerud asked:
I listened to The Whole Love Expanded yesterday. I love it. I had forgotten about “Message From Mid-Bar.” Is that bar as in place to drink or as in bar of music?
Here’s the answer. Midbar is Hebrew for “wilderness or unoccupied land.” That’s what I was most intrigued by when I was writing that song, but I was also aware of and excited by the triple entendre at play. In the taverns where I grew up, the middle of the bar is for strangers, the ends being reserved or constantly inhabited by regulars. In music, the middle of a bar is where anything can happen. You just have to make it back to “the one” on time.
In light of Bryn’s question, I’d like to continue the series of songs I’m relearning for Wilco’s Solid Sound Deep Cuts set with “Message From Mid-Bar.” Listen below.
Also, do you guys still have other questions that need answering? I’m here, and I do that kind of thing. Sometimes. Most of the time. If they’re pertinent. So go ahead and ask some in the comments below. Slight precedence, due to time constraints, will be given to paying passengers of the Starship.
