Chit-Chat Check-In #96 Transcript

Hello, this is your Captain speaking. Thank you all so much for your birthday wishes and your song suggestions. And as I process all of the different tunes and try and pick one to learn and post here for your enjoyment, I thought since someone mentioned Skip Spence and the Beck/Wilco collaboration and cover of Skip Spence’s album Oar, years ago, it reminded me that Spencer and Sammy and I recorded a Skip Spence cover, a pretty long time ago, where Sammy sings “Broken Heart.”

It was part of a practice we used to do occasionally, or pretty often. We did a lot during the Tweedy Show years, obviously. We would learn a cover—in this case, we would go to the studio and see how close we could get to the original. Just try not to do anything but imitate the recording style and everything about how the original came together.

I think Aquarium Drunkard put some of these songs up a few years ago also. If you want to hear any others, I think there are one or two other ones. Aside from that, I’ll get to work looking at the rest of the tunes. And again, thank you for all of the ... it’s always fun when I ask for solicitations of song ideas, because I just hear from a lot more of you than normal, which is awesome, so thank you. Not that I’m complaining about how much I hear from all of you. I think we have a good healthy balance, and I hope you feel as well that that is the case. Feel that that this is the case as well. I talk good. (Laughs)

Carry on.
