Chit-Chat Check-In #90 Transcript

Hello, this is your Captain speaking, on the Starship Casual—the actual Starship Casual—here. Maybe you can hear the generators running, keeping things relatively cool on a hot day just outside our nation’s capital, on tour. En route to Solid Sound.

Not a whole lot to report. I’m spending a lot of time in the cryo chamber, saving up energy for shows and rehearsals and whatnot. It’s a little bit of suspended animation that comes along with being on tour sometimes. I have an agenda, a daily agenda. I read a little bit, I write a little bit, rehearse a little bit, and then do my job. And that’s what I do.

Add into that maybe certain vitamin regimens and a little bit of exercise. Although until I get both hips figured out, I’m never really going to be able to establish the habits I used to have. Until I’m in recovery for my second hip.

But you don’t need to know all of that. That’s neither here nor there. Anyway, here’s “Magnetized.” I’m not sure if we’re going to be playing this on Friday night for the Deep Cuts set, but it’s just another one that I’ve been listening to and reminding myself how the chords get laid out and all that. I don’t know—I kind of love this song, even though it’s really a weird shape and has sort of a bizarre, surreal texture to it lyrically. But I’ve always felt like the chorus is honest and longing. There’s always room for some longing, some yearning, I think, in a song.

Anyway, carry on. And maybe I’ll see you soon. Or not. But thanks for being here. Carry on.
