Have fun on tour Captain-hope you’re feeling back to tip top shape! Oh Crystal and Mark, what time did you say the secret Starship Casual Loft party started again?

Next year, an On This Day that notes the time Cheryl sat in Jeff’s chair.

That said, I will fight a cat who dares take my spot.

Safe travels to Japan! Remember: no new hips in the metal detector. They don’t like it when you forget about new joints. Don’t ask me how I know.

IDK, there's a new energy in this check in. It might just be down to the change in seating. Something to ponder :D

Safe travels, Captain Jeff. Don't give Basil too much cheese. I love the work Cheryl Pawelski has done to help revive the Uncle Walt's Band catalog. I'm sure whatever she's working on for Wilco will turn out great.

Jeff, I wonder if you remember this story...the first time you went to Japan, in 2010, we ran into each other at O'Hare. It was around 5am when Pat and I recognized each other at security and started talking. I was on my way to visit family in Oregon. He told me how excited he was to tour Japan and finally play Osaka. We then walked to the gate together, and the whole band was there, headed to San Francisco on the same flight. I saw you buying a pack of gum at the newsstand, and John was perusing the magazines. To you it was likely an average dawn at the airport. Perhaps you were worried about your ears popping. Or morning breath. (You and I exchanged some gentle morning chatter, and your breath didn't offend me at all!) Then we all lined up and boarded, and not one of you was sitting in first class, and I thought "How very Wilco of them." Later, we kept walking past each other in the food court in SFO, offering little waves each time we'd pass as we decided where to eat for breakfast. A seemingly simple travel day...but for me, it was an extraordinary delight that my favorite band and I were sharing the same plane, and also pretty strange to see you all be so mundanely human. Doing the same as me, really. That's one element that is so special to me about Wilco. You always make me feel like we're in this together, even when you're on stage and I'm looking up. We all chew gum and read magazines to pass the time during long layovers in airport food courts across the country. Incidentally, on my way back from that trip, I found myself face to face with Beyonce and Jay-Z in the same food court. It was very late at night, and again not many people were around, and I thought "Well this is quite a bookend." But honestly, it wasn't nearly as special as flying coach with Wilco! Safe travels, and I hope the Japan shows are excellent. I wonder what flavor gum you'll choose this time...

I’m glad we’re all giving Cheryl the benefit of doubt, and not assuming she is a pathological seat stealer. Hi Cheryl! You’re on our radar now, sit with caution.

I have my favorite seating spots too!!

Maybe Cheryl’s “penance” for sitting in your seat should be to publish more “this week in Wilco” while you are in Japan. Seems fitting and selfishly enjoyable for me 😀
