I will never forget leaving work early to watch the Staple Singers at the shed in Tinley Park. There were not many fans and all the bands… including a young Wilco crew… on the bill came out and sat around me. Ms. Baez was dancing in the aisle and a kid usher kept asking her to sit down… she said something to the effect of … you obviously don’t know who the f*** I am… she wasn’t jerky about it either. What a cool day for this lowly music fan.
I know that bridge in the photo! Grew up close to it and hiked and biked it many times. Never saw any Joan Baezes or Jeff Tweedys on it thought. Shucks.
I met Ms. Baez in 1993 in Columbia, MO. I worked in an art gallery down the street from The Blue Note, where she was playing that night. She came into the gallery and bought a sculpture of a frog for her garden. She was extremely sweet while 20-year-old me was working very hard to keep my shit together because JOAN BAEZ!! I got an autograph and a hug. None of my co-workers understood why I went to the back and cried after she left. Heathens. She’s a wonderful person to encounter in the wild.
one of my favorite parts of the Audible original was learning that "Jesus, don't cry" was an interjection, not a command. (and i love that my google search to verify that "interjection" was the correct grammatical term took me to this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_H._Christ)
Jeff, I hope you read these comments occasionally, because I think you should know that many people LOVE Wilco, the Album. Bull Black Nova, One Wing, You and I, I’ll Fight - heck, all of the songs are wonderful.

Are you referring to the “Please Tell My Brothers” Audible Original, Vol. 35? Well -- I listened to that a few months ago! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wondered how I could have stumbled upon it without having heard about it from you first, but figured you’re a busy guy! You can't tell us EVERYTHING. It was fine to discover your work accidentally. 🤪🥰😘 In fact it was awesome; it felt like I had uncovered a chunk of gold under fallen leaves...in my back yard. I was stoked! Thanks for your talent, your writing and your humor. 😎🤓🤩🥸😘
Thank you Jeff for another outstanding performance I truly believe I felt my heart break when you sang the word tragedy. Sorry to be so melodramatic but its just like that with some of the things you sing. Anywho looking forward to seeing you live in good ole New York City. And maybe you do or maybe you don’t hear it enough but thank you Jeff for all you do for your fans.
I (and many of your clients) am old enough to remember searching music magazines and radio interviews for the smallest snippets of thoughts of our favorite artists. Now we live in a golden age of content
Annnnnd...cue the tears. :) Beautiful, Jeff. Love the snap of you and Joan. I visited an art exhibit in town not long ago where some of her paintings were on display. They were extraordinary. She’s really something else.
I’m on that trail a few times a week--wish I had run across you and Joan! What an incredible gift that would be! I’ve got no chill, so probably would spaz a little. Apologies in advance, for next time.

Love the song! Thank you.
Also, love the photo with Joan Baez. You're both super cool and make the world a better place to be.

Joan is still such a beautiful woman.
Thanks for reminding me about the Audible Original, now listening again. Also, tell someone thanks for my new favorite hat!
Wait....you got a hat? 😮😧😲
Boy Howdy!
Joan Baez played at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. It was pouring buckets of rain and she talked about Woodstock. Of course, she was fabulous!!!
