Back in Chicago after traipsing around a bit and finishing up the final manuscript of my next book. Bumped into Joan Baez while I was in Austin recently doing a bit of promo for a project I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned here on the stack-o-sub. Including a track from that chunk of output, a freebie in front of the paywall.

I will never forget leaving work early to watch the Staple Singers at the shed in Tinley Park. There were not many fans and all the bands… including a young Wilco crew… on the bill came out and sat around me. Ms. Baez was dancing in the aisle and a kid usher kept asking her to sit down… she said something to the effect of … you obviously don’t know who the f*** I am… she wasn’t jerky about it either. What a cool day for this lowly music fan.
I know that bridge in the photo! Grew up close to it and hiked and biked it many times. Never saw any Joan Baezes or Jeff Tweedys on it thought. Shucks.
