Another week in the studio. More music and advice to come. Leave any questions in the comments below. This Week In Wilco, Etc. 1997 / December 12: Wilco begins rehearsals at King Size Studio in Chicago for Mermaid Avenue. Sessions for the album follow in January in Dublin, Ireland.
Hey. Mom just died after a 5 wk battle w cancer. I listened to Either way, sky blue sky, and all of cruel country over and over. It was such a solace. Thanks. Glad there’s new music coming. ❤️
Here's my question: Are you at all concerned that spending several days in Iceland, with its spectacular hiking opportunities, will ruin all other hiking for you?
Also just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful Carpool Karaoke episode. I knew it would be charming and I was still delighted by how charming it was. I think it's safe to say Nikki Glaser was all of us.
Since I love movies and music equally, I've been meaning to ask you Jeff, what is your favorite movie and why? Or if you just want to rattle off a list of favorites, I'd love to know what they are. Thank you for being one of my biggest inspirations to keep writing songs. I was also the Jim that put out the Just A Fan tribute record a couple years back by the way. Appreciated your support. Can't wait to hear more songs in the future.
This is a nerdy technical question but since this Chit Chat Check In is subtitled “In The Studio” I hope it’s appropriate: What kind of reverb and/or slap back delay are you running on your vocals on Love Is The King? I hear it on Bad Day Lately and Even I Can See and most of the rest. It’s a beautiful sound. I would love to have a video of you and Tom talking through the mixing of tracks. Thanks. Take care.
Hey Jeff, looking for your take on the importance of between song stage banter. I feel like you are particularly adept at it. Been a to many a show where the performer barely acknowledges that there's an audience watching and it def diminishes the experience.
I am quite convinced that Trampled By Turtles' Alpenglow is the best non-doily covered album of 2022. How do bands like TbT approach you to produce an album? What goes into producing an album for another band/musician (time commitment, artistic development of song concepts, etc.).
Did it kind of feel like the olden days of 1992 Tupelo with all the banjo, fiddle, and madolin and no drums?
I'm still relatively new to guitar and I watch a lot of the Tweedy Show vids to see, up close, what you are doing. First off, I am super impressed with the quality of sound ya'll get with just Susie's phone? Secondly, you seem to strum a lot with your thumb and, again, get really nice sound that way. When I strum with my thumb it's hollow? monotone? and definitely faint. Do you just have a supercallousedfragilistic thumb by now? Am I gonna have to paint mine with super glue to keep up? Lol! Might not be explainable (Hey, teach me to whistle in the comments section!) but I have spent a good amount of time trying to work this out. :) Excited to hear what you have been up to in the studio!
Hello Jeffy, I'm having a sick day today, and when I am having one of those which is not often, I like to watch Match Game. The old Match Game from when we were kids… I seem to remember once on the Tweedy Show that Charles Nelson Riley was mentioned, can you tell us a little more about your relationship or encounter with him? I absolutely love him and his sarcastic sense of humor… Perhaps that's where I got mine from? Any comments from Susie are welcome too!
Creative process question, bear with me. I’ve heard of other musicians dreaming of music, guitar riffs, lyrics and keep a note pad or tape recorder near their bed so they can remember when morning breaks.
Believe I heard that Neil young and Keith Richards make this a habit.
Do you keep post it notes on your bedside table? Do you find your creative juices are flowing more free lot in the morning after a good slumber or at night as you wind down the day?
Speaking of mental notes... I believe on a Tweedy Show that once took place on a bus, you'd played a snippet of Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits. I'd love to hear the finished version of that one. Thanks...

The dreaded Black Down Stroller Rollers in da Hoods.
Happy Birthday to Spencer!

Well, here goes nothin'...

First Jeff Tweedy prog rock album? Polka project? Smooth jazz? The anticipation is killing me. But it's good to know that you're busy making music.

Happy Holidays. Thanks for the gift of music.
Carpool Karaoke was so much fun. Would you consider doing a full version for starship casual of that masterpiece you wrote as a child, Born to Run?

Were you at all surprised by Glenn's Instagram being hacked or were you just all, "Welp, that's Glenn for ya"?
Do you have pet names for your various guitars—and if so is it more male names or female names or perhaps gender non-specific? Explain.
