Chit-Chat Check-In #157 Transcript

Hello, this is your Captain speaking. I’m sharing a cover of a Ted Lucas song. If you’re not familiar with Ted Lucas, there’s a lot of cool stuff out there to check out, including a couple of recent reissues of most of his recorded output that Third Man Records put out. An early Ted Lucas compilation and I think a later 70 to 75 compilation, both really cool and with a lot of stuff that aren’t on the other records he released.

This song has a really nice version out there by—I can’t remember—either Mountain Man or the A’s, which are similar. But the A’s is Mountain Man minus Molly Sarlé. It’s really beautiful version. This is an iPhone attempt, using the overdubbing capabilities of an iPhone, which is pretty rudimentary, but fun.

I haven’t done any recommendations recently, so let’s just say that if you’re looking for something older that maybe you haven’t checked out, there’s a record called Pop Crimes by Roland S. Howard that I think is really, really great. If you like Nick Cave and that whole Bad Seeds, Birthday Party kind of world. He’s from that world, he was in Birthday Party. It’s really, really great. It’s a cool record, I think it’s somewhat overlooked.

If you’re looking for something new, the Kevin Morby record came out today. Or yesterday, depending on when this comes out.

And bonus recommendation, there’s a new They Might Be Giants record. Their records are always fun. The World Is to Dig. That’s a good title.

That’s it. Carry on.
