Chit-Chat Check-In #100 Transcript

Jeff: Hello, this is your Captain speaking. Woo hoo! Hip hip hooray! 100! This is 100. This is the hundredth, one hundredth Chit-Chat Check-In. I'm sitting at the control room, at the helm with the Starship Casual brain trust of Tom Schick, Spencer Tweedy, Crystal Myers, Mark Greenberg, and ... do you want your last name in there? Oh shit. Did I say your last name right?

Spencer: It's on the album sleeves.

Jeff: One E, everybody, if you're Googling. I'm on tour, at the moment, but I'm also home in-between dates. Tom Petty's birthday is coming up in a couple of days.

Spencer: His death day.

Jeff: Are you sure?

Spencer: I'm pretty sure. He was born on the second and died on the 20th.

Jeff: Oh shit, well maybe ...

Spencer: [Googling] Oh, I was wrong, you were right.

Jeff: It's his birthday.

Spencer: It's the other way around.

Jeff: Phew, well, this is much more celebratory. Spencer, Sammy, and I churned out a Tom Petty cover in, I don't know, half an hour, because I thought it would be fun to share a full band version of something with everyone. Anything else I need to talk about?

Crystal: Happy 100 ... "Wildflower" is the next ... like this post if you want to hear it.

Jeff: Crystal wanted me to do a different Tom Petty song. But Crystal never gets her requests. She's been asking for "Country Roads" for a long time. Not "Country Road," by the way. But Lana Del Ray beat me to it. She covered it.

I wish I had a noisemaker or something. [Noises in background] Wooo! [Other noises] Those are all violent. None of those sounded celebratory to me.

Here we go. [another sound]

Happy 100th, everyone. Thank you, everybody. I wouldn't be here without you. Take the day off, celebrate. [laughter]

All right. Carry on.
