Wow...the first Tweedy show. Three years ago today was when everything really shut down for us: restaurants closing, layoffs, hasty forced abandonment of the community art studio, the dull, numbing blade of distance learning beginning. Those early Tweedy shows were like a warm, consoling hug at the end the day saying "everything is not ok, but here's some music and laughter and togetherness." I think I've said it before, but for me and probably a lot of us...we'll never be able to thank you, Jeff and your family, enough for the comfort, distraction and community those shows brought (and still bring).

When I was young and stupid I used to write “John Cale Rules!l” at every show I used to go to….I once wrote it on the Minutemen’s windshield, but when I saw they were pissed I told them I did it and cleaned it off…the band was cool but one of their crew wanted to beat the shit out of me….young and stupid! Now I’m old and stupid!
I think there needs to be an app that coverts recipe text to John Cale speech. I’m not saying it’d be the best app ever created, but I’m also not not saying it
I remember hearing you mention that Ashton Kutcher mixup and thinking “Whaaat?” But now that I see the picture I totally get it. He’s always seemed like a good guy who has a history of appreciating slightly more mature women—something else you have in common. So yeah, get Ashton to play you in the inevitable biopic!
Best birthday present ever? My Emily got us tickets and plane flights from San Jose for the first night of the new tour in Chicago! Can’t wait to see the band next Thursday on their home ground, after being at so many amazing Wilco, Tweedy, and Jeff shows in SF and LA over the years. As always, requested “Secret of the Sea” – a song E. and I fell in love over when we first met. And yes, the preceding is a shameless plea that it makes the set list for the first time in a long while. See you on March 23rd…

Thank you and the fam for the comfort, joy, and glorious music with which you’ve gifted us over the past three (!) years. (And that John Cale tale is amazing.)

I remember The Raunch Hands!
Weird to think what the world was like 3 years ago. Surreal in so many ways. I've said it before but thanks to you folks for sharing your talents, thoughts and affection through the Tweedy Show. It was one of the things that I looked forward to most during those dark days.
John Cale story is wild. Saw him at the inaugural show of the short-lived venue Nevin’s Live in Evanston. Two blocks from my house. A tiny room with a major talent. Still can’t believe they booked him. The place was bursting.

Re. Kelso - I once said to my wife at an LA restaurant, “that’s John Frusciante sitting over there.”
My wife - “no, it’s not.”
Me: “It absolutely is!”
I do a google search for John Frusciante photos.
Me: “Ok, that’s not him.”
My wife: “You’re like, face blind.”

I hope someone in your orbit greets you with "Kelso!" after reading this post. Please don't fire that person.
Classic Kelso
