2022 / April 14: Wilco and The Aizuri Quartet appear on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (Season 7, Episode 122) where the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot anniversary boxed set is announced. The band plays “Poor Places.”
2023 / April 22: Crosseyed Strangers: An Alternate Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is released for Record Store Day by Nonesuch Records.
2002 / April 23: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is released on Nonesuch Records.
1997 / April 23: Wilco plays “Outtasite (Outta Mind)” on The Late Show with David Letterman.
We used to go to Florida with the kids quite a bit. We still as a family refer to The Great Crab Abomination, where my then-7-yr-old son decided to stuff a large dead crab he found on the beach into the far reaches of his backpack and then completely forgot about it. The smell after several days was so rotten it had almost ascended to a kind of putrified, pickled sort of acidity, with a briny wash of a thousand tainted clams. When the source of the smell was finally discovered, there was much exclaiming and a decisive and swift move to the nearest dumpster.
Moral: Enjoy your beach walks. Don’t put deceased sea creatures in your bag.
I grew up on the beach, and I will never tire of the squeak my feet make in the soft sand. Thanks Captain for a rememory.
