Spring’s right around the corner, so says the groundhog. This song was written trying to imagine ways that people can flower. I like the idea of people flowering. What does it mean to go through a period when you’re sharing stuff, revealing more of yourself? I think it’s a nice metaphor for trying to make art, to make something beautiful. For trying to be beautiful.
It’s been a long time since I’ve asked—what are some songs you might enjoy hearing me play like this? Add a suggestion in the comments below.
[Engineer’s note: You can keep your often-repressed, sometimes-flexed song request muscle active if you’re one of the first thirty-ish people in line for Jeff’s annual benefit shows at the Vic Theatre in Chicago later this year. Traditionally, Jeff picks ALMOST all of the shows’ songs from the early birds’ suggestions, collected from the line by an intrepid crew member.]
