Amar Bharati is an Indian ascetic who’s had his arm raised for more than 50 years as a beacon for peace. He put it up in 1973 and has lived his life that way ever since. (Wikipedia and other internet outlets say he’s known for “claiming” to have his arm raised all this time, but I believe you, Amar! Starship is dropping the qualifier!)
I’m moved by Bharati’s protest. Confused. Repulsed. And ultimately appreciative, based on my policy of supporting acts of construction. I guess you could say he’s destroying something, a part of his body. But it’s still there. In the air.
In Tokyo last week I rehearsed this song with Sima, Macie, Spencer, and Sammy. It’s in consideration for the album we’ve been working on.
With all due respect to Mr. Bharati, I think we should all continue searching for ways to promote peace while we wait to see how Amar’s plan pans out.
