video captured me and new friends I met in the line!
I was very fortunate to see both Vic Theater shows, a musical bucket-list item for me…and Jeff did not disappoint…and neither did the fans…fantastic song requests from the “First 20”.
Absolutely worth the trip from Boston! Planning to make Chicago and the Vic shows a habit!!
Hey, Barb and Mike!! we made the video… We’re famous!
Yes, it was a fun time in the line… Nice to meet you both. Ping me If you ever come to Boston for a show, or western MA for solid sound.
Otherwise, I plan to return to Chicago for any future shows at the Vic… Next year I’ll be in the lucky first 20 in line.
And you will be happy to know that I dug out my old Doc Martens, circa 1992, from the back of my closet. Ordered a new set of brown and yellow laces from Amazon and I’m good to go for next year’s Vic in Chicago! 😉
Jeff, I remember you getting heckled about the lyrics to "She's a Jar," at the Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge back in 1997, well before the song had seen the light of day on the album. A woman took exception to the line "she begs me not to hit her" and voiced her opinion about it very clearly (which isn't hard in that room, which is tiny and wasn't even full that night). You say you're proud of that song's lyrics (as you should be), but did you worry at all about how the lyrics might be misconstrued before you decided to include it on the album? That night, you patiently explained to the heckler that you were not condoning violence, that it's just a character in a song and that no one was harmed in the writing of it, but you also seemed a little taken aback by the response.
Hey, Ashwin shot that video of the line! Surely he’s also a Starship officer (enforcer?) by now? Or was it Mark? I know he’s certainly an officer — Sergeant, I suppose. Otherwise nice work, Lieutenant Crystal!
I used to have a more encyclopedic mind for Wilco and Wilco-ish-related things -- Sinister Luck Ensemble, anyone? -- but what is the song with the, "I really don't know why I came in here, I really don't know...?" That's very nice!
Friday’s set was fantastic, thanks for a great show. The Dear Employer singalong was a particular highlight - Scott really outdid himself with that song.
Nice! A little Leonard Cohen reference…often i see people at shows recording the show…the best is just being there…it’s a long way off but see you in August!
Sadly I missed this year’s benefit. My mom passed away (on Tax Day!!), so I had to cancel my trip. She would let me know whenever you were on Colbert. “Guess who I saw on Colbert? Jeff Tweedy! I didn’t know he was Country Music?” (Due to your cowboy hat.)
My lovely friends got in a request for me - Meant to Be.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Wilco the past few days. It’s helps.
That was my daughter’s request! She is going to be thrilled it made it into the video! (I am too! Thanks!)
(I just used my exclamation allotment for the month.)
These have been some of my favorite shows of the year! also im in the video!

Thanks for the Leonard Cohen reference, eh.
To be fair, that song has a lot of words…

Thank you Crystal! Very touching to see everyone with Feel Free in the background. So cinematic. Love the goosebumps that song gives me.
