Well said, Captain! I’ve been stressing a lot over this election and the general direction of this country, but it truly is heartening that there still seems to be a large segment of the population that still believes in democracy and rejects the authoritarian impulse. You’re right that it’s not perfect, but I’m still hopeful. And hopefully generations to come will continue to stand for democracy and things like inclusion, diversity, and true equality. Thanks for your words and thanks for taking back that apology!
Well said. I too was heartened by where things seem to be going...especially proud of those candidate that conceded respectfully...and quickly. Faith in our democracy and elections must be upheld. Now, about that electoral college concept.
Today I've been seeking out voices that I trust for their assessment of the midterms. As always, I was very happy to see "you" pop into my mailbox. I love your take. It's hopeful and we need that, I need that. Like you, I was heartened. There were some gut punches, but, whatever, I was mostly heartened. Thank you for sharing and just being who you are out here in this wild world. Love you back.
After voting absentee the last several years, it was a complete joy to vote in person and to wait in line, see neighbors, and sign petitions for future ballot questions. It was a great day, you captured the sentiment perfectly ❤️
I worked at the polls in Michigan yesterday and am so happy with the outcome in Michigan. The voters came out - apparently it was the largest turnout in the state’s history. As you said, democracy in action was in full force. So true! Hope we all can keep the momentum going - it will be needed. Thank you for keeping our spirits high and providing laughs along the way.
When I turned 18 and could vote my grandmother told me American democracy is a car and we are all passengers. Sometimes one group gets to drive while the other are passengers. She said when we’re the one driving we need to drive carefully and obey the traffic laws because we are obligated to care for our passengers just as they will be when it’s their turn to drive. There was some wisdom in that despite her never getting past 6th grade. For what it’s worth my grandma always took the bus and never owned a car. She was also very sectarian and racist - she didn’t like Protestants, Jews, the Irish, African-Americans, you name it, if you weren’t a Catholic Slav she found a reason to not like you. It took a couple generations to get old Europe out of some families. I hope for our sake we can stamp out some of this same hate that has come back to the surface (did it ever go away? I don’t know.)
I appreciate the pontificating. If we don’t talk to each other openly about this stuff, we’ll never bridge the divide. I hope your knee feels better ASAP!
Good luck America....you want to try living with the corrupt charlatans in charge in the UK. Regardless, I hope your vote has helped to ensure that good people are elected who believe in trying to look after everyone, not just those who have plenty of money.
I've always believed in looking after someone else before you worry about yourself... however, selfishness, greed, xenophobia and homophobia seem to be the way of the world for too many people these days. Anyway.....
If you need a Euphonium or Tuba player if you are in the UK next year Jeff, shout up. If you need a reference speak to your mate, Neil Finn, I played guitar with him in Gateshead about 10 years ago. He'll vouch for me ...Hints sounds like it needs a Euphonium to me !

Thanks for sharing today, especially after a very disappointing night in Texas! #GoDemocracy
What a beautiful thing to hear today when I see hope in the sky again. Thanks, Jeff💙.
Grateful to be on this starship with you all. Thanks, Captain, for just the right words today.
“A good day for democracy.” ✌️
I love you too, Jeff.
